What is Reiki?

Reiki is a noninvasive healing modality which assists the body in balancing its frequencies, allowing an increase of flow of energy. The word Reiki means, "universal life force energy". In the early 1900s, Usui Mikao, a business man from Japan, put Reiki into a system that could be taught to others after a spiritual enlightenment. Currently, Reiki is practiced all over the world, and there are over one million practitioners. Reiki is useful for pain and stress reduction. It is an enhancement to the physical, mental, and spiritual well being of the recipient. A Reiki practitioner does not diagnose or cure, but merely holds the space for self healing.

What is a Reiki Session like?

A full session takes about 45 minutes to an hour. The recipient remains fully dressed with the exception of shoes, belts, or jewelry and lies on a Reiki table (much like a massage table). The practitioner then allows the energy to flow through the hands via specific positions on or near the body. Often the energy is perceived as relaxing heat or soothing coolness.
